Many years ago, researchers discovered that orcas can be individually identified via the saddle patches, scars and shapes of their dorsal fin. This method, known as photo identification, became the standard method of cataloging the orcas in a particular area. This website aims to be the prototype to an online catalogue which documents every single orca in the world’s oceans and even those enslaved in captivity. Here you will be able to track family lines and learn about the particular diets and behaviours of each ecotype and population of orca around the world.
I am currently in the stages of gathering support from the scientific community (many have already agreed this database is long past due) and searching for a web developer who will be able to assist with the final project.
